Sue Jones passed away last May 2008, after a struggle with cancer.  We at Portside Rotary know some of the many things that Sue did to benefit her community throughout her years as a resident of Kennebunk.  Sue was part of our Portside Rotary club as our breakfast chef for our weekly meetings and always had a smile.  Sue is an outstanding example of the power of one woman to affect the lives of many people through the "service above self" Rotary dictum.  Sue was know as a person who would help and work for others in her church group, in her commitments at Atria and with the Senior Center lobster roll lunches and various catered meals.  Most memorable for our students were her offerings at the lcoal schools for children's involvement in arts and crafts.  There are so many ways that Sue used her gifts for the benefit of others as well as a means of livelihood for her son Alex and herself.

In order to to galvanize the effort to continue Sue's positive effect on the community, Rotary has coordinated with MSAD 71 school staff, Joy Russo, librarian and Terri Bauld from Sea Road School, to launch the Susan Jones Book Memorial Fund.

Any community member who wishes to remember Sue with a monetary donation, can do so, by sending a check made payable to MSDA 71 SJBM Fund.  The school department will collect the  monies donated and use the funds to purchase books for the school libraries.

To honor Sue's community work and spirit of love, a library label dedicating the book to Sue's memory will be placed in each book.  Three separate events were organized involving - a coffee and cookie social, a sing-along, and a spring wreath making activity all to celebrate Sue's joy of life.

If you have any questions on how you can participate or contribute to the Susan Jones Book Memorial Fund, please contact Cornelia Stockman at 207-468-4586, or email:  cornstock@gwi.net.
