KENNEBUNK PORTSIDE ROTARY
Kennebunk Portside Rotary is part of Maine Coast Cleanup effort
Kennebunk Portside Rotary took time Saturday, October 4, to clean up Goose Rocks Beach, Maine. Rotary members, along with family members and friends, have been participated in the annual Maine Coast Week Beach Clean Up. This year’s group included 16 volunteers who removed over 450 pounds of trash from 3 miles of beach. Items such as discarded plastic bags, food wrappers, pieces of foam buoys, rope, and cigarette butts are removed from the beach, and tallied. This documentation is sent to the Maine Coastal Program and on to the International Ocean Conservancy. Portside Rotary Club participants had an enjoyable time at the beach, perform a community service, and be a part of an effort that, in 2007, removed more than six million pounds of debris from over 33,000 miles of shoreline worldwide.
